COVID-19: Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme extended to October 2020

On 12 May 2020, Chancellor Rishi Sunak announced a further extension to the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme (CJRS). In addition, changes will be made to provide employers with greater flexibility.

When will the Job Retention Scheme now end?

The furlough scheme will now continue into the Autumn, ending in October 2020.

What changes will be made?

From early August, furloughed staff will be able to return to work on a part-time basis. Employers will contribute a proportion of wages, with the Government continuing to top up to 80% of current salaries (up to £2,500 per month).
