Small-and medium-sized businesses and employers can reclaim Statutory Sick Pay (SSP) paid out to employees. This will cover up to two weeks’ SSP per eligible employee absent due to coronavirus. The SSP rate for employees who are eligible is £94.25 per week.

Eligibility

Available to any UK based SMEs with fewer than 250 employees as of 28 February 2020.

How do you access the scheme?

The process of reclaiming SSP is still under development and details will be provided in due course.

NOTE: You MUST maintain records of staff absences and payments of SSP, but employees do not have to provide a GP sick note. If employers need evidence of employee sickness, isolation notes can be obtained from NHS 111 online and those who live with someone that has symptoms can get a note from the NHS website.
