Any individuals who are self-employed or businesses that are concerned about not being able to pay their tax bills because of COVID-19, may be eligible for support through HMRC’s Time to Pay service.
For those who are unable to pay due to COVID-19, HMRC will discuss their specific circumstances to explore:
- Agreeing a possible instalment arrangement
- Suspending debt collection proceedings
- Cancelling penalties and interest where they have administrative difficulties contacting or paying HMRC immediately
HMRC have made it clear that each case will be based on the specific facts and circumstances and will take into account the reasons for any difficulty in making payment and the likely timeframe to make good all taxes due.
