You will have read our updates on the various government schemes put in place to protect businesses and individuals during the current Covid-19 crisis.  One of those schemes, the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme (CJRS), allows businesses to furlough staff in return for government grants, aiming to protect jobs. CJRS was originally in place until the end of May but has now been extended for a further month.  This follows the recent announcement that the current social distancing/lock-down will continue for at least another three weeks.  The Chancellor has also announced that he will keep the scheme under review, thereby allowing for any further extensions.
