Chris Sparkes


Chris joined Lubbock Fine early 2019 as a partner in our tax department. For over thirty years, he has worked with businesses and their owners on a wide variety of UK and international tax matters. Providing holistic advice on tax compliance and advisory matters, Chris works with corporates, corporate groups, their owners and key stakeholders to minimise tax risk. He focuses on ensuring that clients’ corporate and personal tax strategies are integrated and aligned.

With his extensive capabilities across both SMEs and large corporate groups, Chris works with his clients in discussions and negotiations with HMRC.  His expertise spans the design and implementation of efficient UK and international business structures, group reorganisations and demergers to the sale and acquisition of businesses. He also covers planning related issues such as Intellectual Property, R&D and Capital Allowances.

To achieve their long-term goals, Chris assists clients by supporting them throughout the life-cycle of their business. This may include structuring the exit of retiring shareholders and the introduction of new investors, designing share option arrangements for key stakeholders, advising on tax reliefs available for new funding and assisting in the design of tax efficient remuneration packages.

Having spent part of his career as a transaction tax specialist within the Corporate Finance team of a Big-4 firm, Chris is highly skilled at advising both individuals and corporates on tax efficient ways to sell or acquire businesses. He also has wide-ranging experience of undertaking tax due diligence exercises and in all kinds of M&A transactions, including IPOs.


In his spare time Chris enjoys walking and bird-watching in the South Downs. He also enjoys travel, classical music and has a particular interest in military and ancient history.
